Robby Valentine, whose real name is Robert Marco Kempe, was born in Hilversum, Holland on December 4, 1968. He first learned to play piano at the age of six. He used to play classical pieces such as Bach, Chopin and Beethoven. When he was 12, he played his first concert at school. Two years later the joined his brother in Tremendous Vistix. He played anything, from pop, ska, rock, and even reggae. He joined Spoiled Brat in his teenage, but he still could not find friends who share the same idea. He went to Rotterdam and joined a band called Line, which he found via an ad. Having to find the same problem, he then decided to make his own band, The First Avenue. Not having the success he wanted, Robby quit the band and joined Zinatra. He released an album called The Great Escape and three singles with them before quiting. With a help of an MTV producer, Adam Curry, Robby got his record deal with Polydor. On his first album, he was going to name his band Valentine, but due to the fact that there was already another band with the same name, he put Robby Valentine instead. On this album he was helped by several well known musicians; Rob Winter on guitar, Arthur Polini on bass, Hans Eijknaar on the drums, and John Ewbank on keyboards. When he made his third album, he found out that the other band called Valentine has broken up, so he decided to change his band name into Valentine.
